Description: To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Concord's first commercial flights on January 21st 1976, I have created a set of illustrations depicting Concord from the first flight in 1969 through to the final flight in 2003. This image is of Air France Concorde F-BVFA, in 1988 it flew around the world in a record breaking (at the time) 41 hours 27 minutes. It can be seen on display in Chantilly, Virginia, USA.
Description: Concord is a lively city in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, known for its historic charm and strong community spirit. With its blend of preserved architecture and modern growth, it offers both tradition and progress. This drawing makes a great gift or keepsake for anyone connected to Concord.
Description: Vee-Jay Records is an American record label founded in the 1950s, located in Chicago and specializing in blues, jazz, rhythm and blues and rock and roll. The label was founded in Gary, Indiana, in 1953 by Vivian Carter and James C. Bracken, a husband-and-wife team who used their initials for the label's name. Vivian's brother, Calvin Carter, was the label's A&R man. Ewart Abner, formerly of Chance Records, joined the label in 1955, first as manager, then as vice president, and ultimately as president.
Description: If you spent much time in New Hampshire over the years, you're probably familiar with Mac's Place, the traditional Scottish ale house that called Concord home for right around 45 years. Whether you stopped by for a pint or a Scotch whiskey or the traditional fish supper, Mac's was the place to get yourself a taste of Scotland.
Description: The Bedford Flag is the oldest known flag in the United States of America. It is associated with the Minutemen of Bedford, Massachusetts, and the Battles of Lexington and Concord of 1775. The Latin motto of "Vince Aut Morire" translates to "Conquer or Die," showing how the new revolutionary government was firmly resisting the royal government.
Description: Specialty Records was an American record label founded in Los Angeles in 1945 by Art Rupe. It was known for rhythm and blues, gospel, and early rock and roll, and recorded artists such as Little Richard, Guitar Slim, Percy Mayfield, and Lloyd Price. Rupe established the company under the name Juke Box Records but changed it to Specialty in 1946 when he parted company with a couple of his original partners. Rupe's daughter, Beverly, restarted the label in the 1980s. The record label was sold to Fantasy Records in 1991 and is now part of the Concord Music Group. The music publishing unit was sold to Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
Description: Midnight Run Club 1775 represents the ultimate historic collegiate style for marathon runners and American history enthusiasts. This prestigious athletic crest features a golden horse profile and Paul Revere lantern inside a classic forest green shield. Show your New England pride on Patriots Day, the Fourth of July, or during your morning training sessions with a design that honors the historic route of Lexington and Concord.
Description: Kicking Mule Records was an American independent record label, founded in Berkeley, California in 1971 by guitarist Stefan Grossman and Eugene "ED" Denson, formerly co-owner of Takoma Records. The company's name comes from the country blues sexual two-timing allegory "there's another mule kicking in your stall". During the 1970s, the company did much to popularize solo fingerpicking guitar, expanding the style with recordings of Scott Joplin rags, Beatles hits, big band tunes, and Turlough Carolan harp tunes. The label also released several similarly-styled banjo records.
Description: He went to the woods to live deliberately. He came back with a book that changed everything. Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862) — naturalist, philosopher, tax resister, and author of Walden — spent two years, two months, and two days at Walden Pond conducting an experiment in radical simplicity. He also wrote Civil Disobedience, which influenced Gandhi, MLK, and essentially every meaningful nonviolent resistance movement since. For readers, philosophers, naturalists, libertarians, and anyone who has considered, briefly, just going to live in the woods.
