Hathor Bags
Description: This depiction of Hathor comes from an Ancient Egyptian menat counterweight. A menat was a type of heavily beaded ritual necklace and the Hathor image was used as a counterweight on the back. There are representations of women holding the necklace, possibly shaking them to make noise, during ceremonies honoring the goddess. I've recreated this depiction of Hathor in my own style based off a menat counterweight located in the Met.

Description: This picture of the "Great Mother Goddess Hathor" is art by Leon Jean Joseph Dubois (1780-1846) who was hired by the famed Egyptologist, Jean-François Champollion, to illustrate his book, Pantheon Egyptien. Champollion was one of the first Egyptologists to successfully use the Rosetta Stone in order to decipher Egyptian language and symbolism. The original image (before my artistic enhancement) is in the public domain and made available courtesy of Rawpixel. FYI, it is now known that Hathor was not just one entity - Hathor refers to a race of beings who live on Venus in the fourth dimension. They function purely through love and sound.

The collection is among the world's largest, and it overviews Egyptian life spanning Ancient Egypt, the Middle Kingdom, the New Kingdom, Coptic art, and the Roman, Ptolemaic, and Byzantine periods. This is a stele of Hathor and Seti. A stele is a stone slab or a wooden slab, generally taller than it is wide. These were erected in the ancient world as a monument. Grave steles were often used for funerary or commemorative purposes. They were also used as ancient Greek and Roman government notices or as boundary markers to ...
