He was the author of Tom Browns school days depicting life at Rugby school. He was a public school boy at Rugby school and started in February 1834, Thomas Arnold the well know reforming headmaster of his day was in charge of the school at this time. Description: A statue of William Webb Ellis (1806 – 1872) which is outside Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, UK. Where in 1823 William Webb Ellis picked up a football and ran with it, this being the origin of the game of Rugby. The bronze statue, by Graham Ibbeson, modeled after his own son, was unveiled on the 26th September 1997.
