Hollywood Noir is a graphic tribute to the Glory Days of Hollywood, Film Noir & Detective Fiction

This painting shows the moment a door is opened and reveals a woman waiting in the dark all dressed up sitting in a highback chair as if on a throne. Something dramatic is about to happen for sure. This is one of my works from art school. I used photos in an old photography book for reference. It may be Marlene Dietrich but it ended up looking more like her daughter Maria Rivas. One of my favorite paintings from those days.

Another murky noir situation: a blonde, a gumshoe, headlights, maybe a gas station....

She's grabbed the pistol and there's a shadow. That's basically what we know.

A cheap hotel room, a redhead, a fedora, a big old phone, some signage....

My film poster for The Third Man is my tribute to one of the greatest films of all time, and my very favorite film noir. From the eerie, unique zither music soundtrack to the striking cinematography to the beautiful Vienna, Austria setting to the brilliant writing and directing to the exceptional acting, The Third Man is, quite simply, a perfect film. And Orson Welles was a big part of this perfection.

Generally considered one of the greatest movies of the seventies and arguably the greatest private eye flick ever made (the only other contender is John Huston's The Maltese Falcon) 1974's Chinatown, which unleashed the character of Los Angeles gumshoe J.J. "JAKE" GITTES upon the world, is a superb private eye mystery and modern-day film noir thriller.
