She was paddled from Stromness through Scapa Flow to Scapa on Saturday 4th July 2009, as part of a journey round the British Isles. North Ronaldsay sheep, Orkney. The sheep live on seaweed; they are kept to the shore by a drystone dyke which surrounds the island. When the tide goes out they eat, and when it's high tide they rest. http://www.orcadiaimages.co.uk

At one point in the Christmas Day 2007 Kirkwall Ba game the action moved to the rooftops! Luckily nobody was injured.... The Ba is played every Christmas and New Year's Day in Kirkwall, Orkney. It's a kind of traditional game of mass football, played in the streets of the town between the Uppies and the Doonies. Throw-up is from the Merkat Cross in front of St Magnus Cathedral at 1pm, and the game often takes several hours to reach a conclusion. Until recently the Westray Skiffs were the sea taxis used to transport people and small cargo between the isles. These boats were built and maintained locally.

A selkie, or seal. Selkie is the Orcadian dialect workd for seal. In Orkney, and other areas of Scotland, there are tales of selkie folk, sometimes called silkies. They come ashore and shed their skins and take human form., often dancing on the shore. If their skin is taken, they cannot return to the sea.
