River Thames At Benson Baseball T-Shirts

The River Thames as seen from the north bank at Benson in Oxfordshire. Here we are just above the weir and lock - seen in the background and are just next door to The Waterside cafe and bistro - a lovely place to sit and look at the river. Benson is as well known perhaps for its RAF station just across the main road from here. A walk across the weir and lock along the Thames Path takes us to the ancient market town of Wallingford.

A digital painting from my original photograph of the lock at Benson in Oxfordshire. This can be reached via the Thames Path from Wallingford and, after crossing the adjacent weir, the walk can be continued to a very welcome riverside cafe and restaurant. The lock as we see it dates from 1870 but the first one was built in 1788 by the Thames Navigation Commission. Here a boat is passing through on its way upstream to Shillingford and then on to Abingdon and Oxford.

The view over the River Thames from the Taplow bank to Ray Mill Island and the Boathouse Restaurant, Maidenhead. Taplow and Maidenhead are joined by an elegant footbridge on Ray Mill Island. The restaurant, once a mill, sits beside Boulters Lock, the subject of several paintings in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. My photograph has been finished as a coloured pencil drawing.

The lock keeper's house on an island next to the lock at Goring on Thames, Oxfordshire. This is the view from the southerly river bank at Streatley on Thames in Berkshire. Linking these two villages is a fine iron bridge built in 1923 which can be seen in the background. Here the Thames flows through a gap in the hills - the Chilterns to the north and the North Wessex Downs to the south, This is thought to be one of the most beautiful; stretches of the river. The River Thames as it flows through the market town of Abingdon in Oxfordshire, produced here as a digital painting, This is the scene looking upstream towards the road bridge to Dorchester-on-Thames on the way to Oxford. Behind us the river flows on to Reading and evntually London and the sea.

A view downriver at Marlow on Thames in Buckinghamshire captured on an autumn afternoon. The suspension bridge spanning the river was constructed in 1832 and was designed by William Tierney Clark' It was the prototype for the Szechenyi Bridge in Budapest and bears a plaque linking it with that city. I painted this about 28 years ago on an old piece of canvas from a boats doger, stretched on hand made stretches. It measure approximately 12 inches by 18 inches and is still for sale after all this time. I forgot it was in my studio

Behind us the river flows on to Wallingford where this walk started - and ahead is the town of Abingdon and the city of Oxford. However, immediately ahead on this walk is a riverside bistro - a lovely place to sit and relax with a coffee and pastry before retracing our steps.

The River Thames as it flows through Reading, the county town of Berkshire in England. This is the scene just downstream from Caversham Bridge (in the background) linking the town centre of Reading with Caversham on the north bank. Houses, flats, offices and a few restaurants line the riverbanks here. The Thames was once the main route into Reading - particularly in medieval times when the large and powerful Reading Abbey was the centre of life and commerce. Now it's busy with leisure craft. This peaceful backwater is immediately next to the rushing waters of Benson weir on the River Thames in Oxfordshire. This was photographed in late August and the lush green foliage rather belies the hot, dry weather we had experienced durung the summer! The image was taken from the Thames Path which, if coming from Wallingford, has just passed over the lock and weir at Benson. Carrying on to the left we reach a riverside cafe and bistro - just right for refreshments before the return walk!

Boats moored on the Thames riverbank at Cookham in Berkshire. This is part of the Thames Path, a long distance trail which follows the river all the way from Cricklade in the Cotswold Hills to the Thames Barrier in Greenwich, London. Cookham, on the banks of the Thames is a village lying in the furthest north-east corner of Berkshire. Here the artist Sir Stanley Spencer lived and painted, many of his works of art being set in the environs of this village. He is buried in the churchyard here.

The River Thames as it flows past the market town of Wallingford in Oxfordshire, England. This view is from the old bridge that links the town with the village of Crowmarsh Gifford. Wallingford is almost exactly half way between Reading and Oxford and the river here would once have been busy with commercial traffic travelling to and from from London to the east and, after 1789, from the north of England via the newly completed Oxford canal. The river is still busy but now with pleasure craft.

An Autumn scene on the Thames at Sandford Lock just south of Oxford. Taken late in the day during early November, the low sun intensifies the autumnal colours. Sandford lock is the deepest on the Thames and is also one of the oldest.

A boat moored on the bank of the River Thames not far from Wallingford in Oxfordshire. Here we are walking along the Thames Path National Trail between Wallingford and Benson. A lovely stretch of the Thames with trees crowded along the banks but with the occasional gap allowing for nice, peaceful moorings. To our left the towpath takes us to the quaint market town of Wallingford with its many independent shops - and a frequent setting for Midsomer Murders!

A variety of river boats are moored along the towpath which is part of the Thames Path long-distance trail. A launch is heading towards to lock and a couple of paddle boarders are moving downstream. Here the Thames flows through the Goring Gap between the Chiltern Hills and the North Wessex Downs.

A picturesque boathouse on the banks of the River Thames between Benson and Wallingford in Oxfordshire. Here the river banks are covered in mature trees and plenty of thick undergrowth. But here and there we get glimpses across the river of views such as this. We are standing on the Thames Path, the long distance trail which joins the Thames Barrier in London with the source of the river in the Cotswolds. To our right is the old market town of Wallingford and to our left is the lock at Benson.

Boats moored on the Thames riverside just above the old mill at Goring-on-Thames. Just above here the river divides with the navigation channel passing through the lock next to Goring and Streatley weir. Here though it passes under the road bridge before rushing through the sluices and through Goring Mill. But here all is calm, the moorings fronting old half timbered buildings which house amoung other things a dental surgery. It's been a hot summer resulting in a build-up of green weed.

Looking across the Thames to Bisham in Berkshire, England. This view is from the towpath leading from Marlow to Henley-on-Thames. On the far bank is the parish church of All Saints at Bisham which dates from the 12th century. This stretch of the river is famous for its rowing clubs and rowers - particularly Sir Steve Redgrave. Near the church is the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.

London Eye at night is a memorable experience as it glitters up spectacularly when lit in the dark. This photo is taken during the last Christmas holidays when the London Eye is lit up with led lights. The photo is now turned into fine art for you to frame it in your living room or office.
