Tasman Glacier Baseball T-Shirts

My second accidental Christmas in New Zealand was celebrated in and around Mt Cook village. We started things off with a quick visit to Tasman Glacier view point. Considering I thought it would just be a flat braided river with a bit of snow in the distance I was totally blown away by the view! This is painted hiding under a rock for shade while having good chats with a DOC worker.

The Tasman Glacier is the largest glacier in New Zealand. This was from a ski trip on the glacier

Glaciers somehow capure my imagination. A river of ice seems so bizarre to me.

The Hochstetter Ice fall is at the bottom of the Hochstetter Glacier and feeds into the Tasman Glacier. This was taken from a fixed wing plane flight to land further up on the Tasman Glacier. 2 Sept, 2019 Sony A6300, ISO100, f/10, 1/400 sec, 42 mm

So many of the highlights of Mackenzie Country packed into such a small area. The golden tussock, the hiking opportunities, and Mount Cook, lording it over it all...

The moraine-filled valley of the Tasman Glacier in the South Island's Mackenzie Country. It was hard to even comprehend how big the glacier, now starting many kilometers behind us, once was.

While we were boating on the Tasman Glacier Lake, we were lucky enough to see an iceberg roll over, revealing the gorgeous blue ice that had previously been hidden underwater. This was one of the few other boats that was in the area at the time -- its lucky passengers got to reach out and touch it. Later, our boat pulled up next to it and we were able to feel how smooth the ice was, as well as looking through its translucent blue ice at the sky. A very memorable experience!
