St. Mary's Lighthouse was built in 1898 in the site of an 11th Century monastic chapel. It was a fully operational lighthouse until 1984. It is located on St. Mary's Island which is separated from the mainland near Whitley Bay at high tide.

Some of the bridges over the River Tyne as seen from the railway bridge as trains cross over the river from the south. The Swing Bridge, Tyne Bridge and Millennium Bridge can all be spotted together with The Sage all under a clear blue sky. The image has been converted to monochrome but is also available in colour. Just after sunrise on a January morning with a pink and blue glow from the pastel colours in the sky, made for an unusual shot of St Mary's Island and its reflection in the rockpools left by the receding tide. The island is situated near the town of Whitley Bay on the North East coast of England and is cut off from the mainland each high tide as the water covers the causeway at that time.
