WILPENA POUND - South Australia Flinders Ranges, foggy morning light.

The southern end of Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges from Stokes Lookout. Spring brings colour to the desert in the form of wildflowers and spinifex grass. Although often confused with a volcanic crater or a meteor crater it is actually part of the Adelaide Geosyncline. The actual Pound is sedimentary rock in the form of a large syncline, with the fold axis running NNW-SSE through Edeowie Gorge at the northern end and Rawnsley's Bluff at the southern.
