Description: Sharpie pen drawing and colored in Adobe Photoshop CS5 Borobudur, or Barabudur, is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist Temple in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. The monument consists of six square platforms topped by three circular platforms and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues.[1] A main dome, located at the center of the top platform, is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues each of which is seated inside a perforated stupa. It is the world�s largest Buddhist temple,[2][3] as well as one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world.[4]
Description: Vajrapani is known for his power to protect the dharma as well as to overcome obstacles. He is dark-blue in color, three eyes with a ferocious look. His body is surrounded by the wisdom flame of Prajna and adorned with necklaces, naga-serpents and tiger skin loincloth. His left hand holds an iron chain at chest level while his right hand raised and holds a vajra scepter, both hands make the gesture of Tarjani mudra to ward off evil.
Description: The most popular tantric manifestation of Manjushri is Vajrabhairava. In this ancient 15th-century image he has a buffalo head, holds an array of weapons, and tramples on birds, dogs, and Hindu gods. In this form, he is sometimes called Yamantaka, or the defeater of death, a deity that ends the cycle of rebirth and provides a path to nirvana. He frightens away egotism and selfishness—the root of suffering—and in this true form reveals the awesome and terrifying nature of enlightenment. For this extraordinary embroidery, the artist employed fine silk floss to achieve brilliant gradations of color and used horsehair underneath to create three-dimensional effects.
Description: The ferocious aspect of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, Mahakala is shown in a flaming aureole, his six hands holding his horrific ritual implements. Attending Mahakala are four yaksha “ministers” in red and blue, and below they ride a bear and a horse and flank the protector goddess Palden Lhamo on her donkey. The celestial Buddha Amitabha presides, flanked by mahasiddhas and Gelugpa patriarchs. Tangkas at this scale often replaced damaged wall paintings.
