A picturesque cottage in the village of Turville, Buckinghamshire. The village is situated in the Chiltern Hills as they drop down into the Thames Valley. Nearby are the towns of Henley, Marlow and High Wycombe. Not surprisingly this pretty village has been the setting for many films and TV productions such as The Vicar Of Dibley and Midsomer Murders. This was photographed late one July afternoon. The image has added textures.

The pathway leading from a country lane to the Norman church of St Nicholas at Ibstone, Buckinghamshire. This ancient church sits surrounded by trees on the edge of the village of Ibstone. The village, which is a mere six miles from High Wycombe, is reached through narrow country roads and lies on the edge of a hillside in the Chilterns Hills overlooking spectacular wooded valleys.

In the background is All Saints church, the spire being a distinctive landmark in the area. Near the church is the suspension bridge constructed in 1832. Designed by William Tierney Clark, it was the prototype for the Szechenyi Chain Bridge crossing the Danube in Budapest.

Its location is the appropriately named Mill End, where the fast flowing Hambleden Bourne discharges into the Thames. Immediately below it is the weir, one of the longest on the Thames. The Norman church of St Nicholas at Ibstone, Buckinghamshire, England. This old church sits surrounded by trees on the edge of the village of Ibstone in Buckinghamshire. Ibstone itself, which is a mere six miles from High Wycombe, is reached through narrow country roads and lies on the top of a hillside in the Chilterns overlooking wooded valleys. This Grade II listed church has a nave which dates from the 12thC, as do the chancel arch and font. The 15thC pulpit is thought to be one of the first in the country (priests stood on the chancel steps before that). The 12thC entrance seen in the image is protected by a wooden porch added in the 19thC. The church and the manor farm next door belong to Merton College Oxford, the advowdson or ...

The sun setting over the River Thames just upstream from Marlow in Buckinghamshire, looking towards Bisham on the Berkshire side. This stretch of river is frequently busy with rowing, kayaking and canoeing crews training as both Marlow Rowing Club and the National Sports Centre at Bisham Abbey are close by. A coxless pair race past Temple Island at Remenham, Berkshire, very near Henley on Thames. This section of the river is famous for the annual Henley Royal Regatta held in early July. Temple Island is situated between Henley and Hambleden. It dates from 1771 and was designed by the architect James Wyatt as a fishing lodge for a nearby house. It's now owned by Henley Royal Regatta and has been completely restored to its former glory. It marks the start of the regatta course which finishes just below Henley Bridge. A white painted house on the banks of the River Thames at Mill End, Hambleden in Buckinghamshire. This lovely stretch of the river is where the Chiltern Hills meet the Thames Valley and unsuprisingly is the setting for many TV programmes and a number of films. This image was captured from Hambledon Weir, the longest on the river. Nearby is the iconic Hambleden Mill, now luxury flats. A digital drawing from my original photograph.

A landing stage on the River Thames at Marlow just above the weir and lock. Marlow is a beautiful old Georgian town in Buckinghamshire which sits on the north bank of the Thames. A fine suspension brisge links the town to Berkshire on the southern bank. This stretch of the river is famous for rowing, the club here producing Olympic champions such as Sir Steve Redgrave, Past residents of Marlow have included Jerome K Jerome, Mary Shelley and TS Elliot.

Just upstream from the town of Marlow-on-Thames in Buckinghamshire. We can see the houses and the spire of All Saints Church - a local landmark. The Thames here is famous for rowing with a number of Olympic rowers training both in Marlow and at the nearby National Sports Centre at Bisham Abbey, This is the scene from the Thames Path National Trail which starts near the source of the Thames and continues all the wat to the Thames Barrier in London.

Chair bodging is a craft particularly associated with the beechwoods covering the Chiltern Hills. The bodger here is working at his pole lathe, often referred to as a High Wycombe lathe, turning out chair legs for the furniture industry. Bodgers would usually buy stands of trees and set up their workplace among them. The Chilterns are known for their typical furniture with turned wooden legs and stretchers - such as the Windsor chair.

Now restored as a home, it has featured in a number of films and TV production, most notably 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'. It is of the design known as a 'smock mill' as the wooden weatherboarding looked like a farmworker's smock. This is a Grade 2 listed building.

The lovely old mill at Hambleden on the River Thames in Buckinghamshire, sitting just above the exceptionally long weir. Walkers can cross the weir on a footway which leads to Hambleden Lock on the Berkshire bank. From here the Thames Path leads upstream to Henley on Thames and downstream to Marlow. The mill itself has ancient origins and was apparently mentioned in the Domesday Book! More recently it has been converted into flats.
