Pew Tor is a magnificant tor that sits high on Whitchurch Common,east of Tavistock, and can be seen from all angles on this part of the moor. The summit consists of three large granite stacks and smaller surrounding stacks. The views are great all around, especially into the Walkham Valley and across to the old railway line at Kings Tor.

Walking on Dartmoor one Spring a few years ago I was surprised to find an open valley filled with bluebells down to the stream that ran through it. With a granite tor in the background I took this view, and recreated it in oil on board (18 inches x 14 inches). One day I will return to spend a bit more time in this magical, tranquil location. I'd give a precise location, but don't want hordes of people trampling this delicate landscape.

The Two Moors Way is a long-distance path that runs from Ivybridge in South Devon to Lynmouth on the coast of North Devon, crossing parts of both Dartmoor and Exmoor (and passing into Somerset) along the way. The total length of the trail is about 103 miles (166 km), and some sections are difficult in poor weather.

For Whom Dartmoor Prison Bell Tolls I cannot seem to find out anything about the bell on the second gate into this foreboding prison. Whether they ring it when a new inmate enters or leaves is something I'll do a bit more research on. HM Prison Dartmoor is a Category C men's prison, located in Princetown, high on Dartmoor in the English county of Devon. Its high granite walls dominate this area of the moor. The prison is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, and is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. Dartmoor Prison was given Grade II heritage listing in 1987.
