John Francis Anthony "Jaco" Pastorius III (/ˈdʒɑːkoʊ pæˈstɔːriəs/; December 1, 1951 – September 21, 1987) was an American jazz bassist who was a member of Weather Report from 1976 to 1981. He worked with Pat Metheny and Joni Mitchell, and recorded albums as a solo artist and band leader.

The festival is held annually on the 20-acre oak-studded Monterey County Fairgrounds, located at 2004 Fairground Road in Monterey. That year was my first time at a jazz concert and the first time at this amazing festival.

Lee Morgan is another one of those great artists that life cut their existence short but leave us their incredible talent to enjoy it in one forever. Lee was killed by his wife who shot him in a New York club in a band performance. There’s a documentary “I called him Morgan” released in 2016, from where I heard about this LP called “Cornbread’. I liked it so much I decided to make a version of this great LP ‘vinyl’ art design, you heard right ‘vinyl’… these pieces of musical art are meant to be heard in ‘vinyl’ LP. July 10, 1938 – February 19, 1972 (33 years old).

Her exceptional talent allowed her to traverse a wide array of musical styles, embracing classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and pop with equal mastery. Nina Simone's versatile and powerful voice left an indelible mark on the world of music, resonating with audiences across genres and generations.

The New York Jazz Festival debuted on Randall's Island on August 24 and 25, 1956 with a similar design as this version. With a very ‘sketchy’ promotional graphics poster, in my opinion, this was the first Jazz festival in New York. The ‘fest’ was promoted with an 8.5 x 11 poor put together a booklet with this colorful design that today you can find it on sale on eBay. I designed my own taking the original concept and elevated it to a more eye appealing. The lineup back then included Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Gerry Mulligan, Joe Williams, Erroll Garner, Gene Krupa, Coleman Hawkins. Louis Armstrong didn’t make it until next year.
