Kew Bridge, August 2020 Bridge over the River Thames (London, England) between Kew (in the county of Surrey) on the South Bank and Brentford (Middlesex) on the North Bank. Opened in 1903, the current bridge is the 3rd to be built across this stretch of the river. Prior to the first bridge being built a ferry was located here. The bridge is 1182 feet (360 metres) long and the largest of the three arches is 133 feet (41 metres). Date: 1st August 2020.

Kew Palace Number of views as of 19th May 2018 = 770. The third or fourth building to be named thus, the current Kew Palace (Kew Gardens, London, England) was actually built as a mansion house by a wealthy Dutch merchant in the 1660s, hence its alternative name 'The Dutch House'. It was later sold to King George III in 1781 for £20,000 as a temporary residence, whilst a new, grander palace was being built. The new palace did not live up to expectations however and was never finished. Date: 22nd April 2011.

The Pagoda at Kew Number of views as of 22nd May 2019 = 2810. The famous pagoda at Kew Gardens (London, England) stands (163 feet) high and was completed in 1762. At that time, it was the tallest reconstruction of a Chinese building in Europe. Kew's Pagoda dares to be different, in that purists apparently argue that pagodas should always have an odd number of floors. This one has ten. Each successive, octagonal floor from the first to the topmost is1 foot (30 cm) less in diameter and height than the preceding one. The original building was very colourful; the roofs being covered with varnished iron plates, with a dragon on each corner. Kew Railway Bridge, July 2021 Kew Railway Bridge was built for the London & South Western Railway and was opened in 1869. It crosses the River Thames between two road bridges, Kew Bridge and Chiswick Bridge. It carries London Overground trains running between Richmond and Stratford, and District Line trains running between Richmond and Upminster. Date: 5th July 2021.

Kew Palms

To visit Kew Gardens is the visit the most extraordinary of all botanical gardens. Kew has the largest and most diverse botanical and mycological collections in the world. Founded in 1840, the gardens were formerly the grounds of royal palaces. This image is of one of the very courtly flower pots that line the bank of the pond in front of the "Palm House". The building beyond is today used as a museum and teahouse.

Pastel on Art Spectrum plein air board - 30 x 40 cm This painting was started during a recent paint out at Sunnyvale Rd, Kew on a jetty over the Camden Haven River. I primed the white pastel board with a watercolour wash, then blocked in most of the painting. As with most plein air paintings, a breeze came up & rippled the water, the sun was in & out behind the clouds - so much was changing all the time!
