Scott LaFaro was an American jazz double bassist active from 1955 until his death in 1961. He became particularly well known for his work with pianist Bill Evans and is one of the most influential bassists in jazz history. LaFaro revolutionized the playing of the double bass, introducing new techniques and approaches that fundamentally changed the role of the bass in jazz. His playing was characterized by impressive technique, remarkable musical sensitivity, and exceptional improvisational ability. LaFaro died in a car accident at the age of only 25.
