A digital pencil drawing from my original photo of thatched and half timbered cottages sitting beside a lane in Blewbury, Oxfordshire. This picturesque village nestles in a dip of the North Wessex Downs, lying between Streatley (Berkshire) and Wantage (Oxfordshire), the nearest town being Didcot. Its maze of small streets and lanes are lined with both brick and half-timbered buildings. Several springs rise in the village feeding a small lake and in times past watercress was cultivated here.

Picturesque thatched cottage in the main street of the village of Avebury. Avebury is known for its standing stones: a circle within which the village has been partly built. The Neolithic henge monument, constructed around 2600 BC, contains three stone circles, in Wiltshire, in southwest England. Unique amongst megalithic monuments, Avebury contains the largest stone circle in Europe, and is one of the best known prehistoric sites in Britain. I'm not sure how old the thatched cottage at the bottom of the cliffs in Runswick Bay, North Yorkshire has been there but with rising sea levels its future must be of some concern. The cottage is an icon of Runswick Bay and instantly recognisable to anyone that has visited the small, historic fishing village on the North Yorkshire coast

A pretty thatched cottage in the village of Sulham in Berkshire, England. The village lies at the foot of steeply wooded Sulham Hill and is situated just to the south of Pangbourne. Several of the cottages here are in this somewhat whimsical 'ornamental cottage' style, having been built in the mid 1800s by the local landowners, the Wilder family, who lived in nearby Sulham House. As the original image was an olde worlde thatched english cottage I felt that digitally changing it to give the appearance of an early cyanotype photo print would offer someone an interesting alternative to the original coloured pen and watercolour wash painting. This beautiful flowering tree is called Prunus 'Kanzan' (Japanese Flowering Cherry) with the thatched cottages at Ashby St Ledgers, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom behind it. The buildings are built out of local warm-toned ironstone.
