I made this inspired by the movie Boyz in the Hood, and the discourse in it about what stores we have in the hood vs. suburbs and the liberation by owning our own goods, resources.

I made this work years ago in response to all the grief, rage, endless trauma that became centre stage with the BLM movement. Seeing brown and black bodies being constantly brutalized for no reason, with no accountability, is too much to take.

Looking at the news, it feels like people are watching passively as genocides happen around us, in freeze mode either because its too overwhelming or because they can't be bothered to care. A reminder: close your eyes, open your third eye and bloody rehumanize yourself. Then do something you can do about it. Buy an esim for Gaza, send food to Yemen, provide relief and much needed resources to Sudan, ween yourself off tech products and lobby your representatives to shut down child trafficking and rape in the DRC. Or, help stock food banks and pantries in your own home, for the lesser fortunate among us because everyone is one bad medical bill, lay off, or bad day away from homelessness.
