York City Shambles And Historic Buildings The Shambles is a quaint and historic street in the city of York in England. Back in the day of medieval times, this was once a street full of butcher shops. The term Shambles means a maze of twisty and narrow lanes in the centre of York. This is the best preserved streets of medieval buildings in England and is also the oldest in the whole of Europe.

Shambles Market, York City, England This is the impressive entrance to York's Shambles Market. This area of York is a must and is hard to miss due to its central location. Shambles market is a one-stop shop for all your shopping needs including quality gifts, fresh flowers, crafts, handbags, fresh produce and much more. Shambles Market also hosts its very own food court with food from all over the world.

The church of St James in Clapham was founded in Norman times, and originally dedicated to St Michael. It is mentioned in records dating back to 1160. The village and church were burned during a Scottish raid following the Battle of Bannockburn in the early 14th century. The church tower was probably erected following this incident, but the rest of the church dates from the 19th century. In the 14th century John de Clapham, who took his surname from the village, was a supporter of the Earl of Warwick and lived at Clapdale Castle.[1] His descendants took part in the Wars of the Roses[2] on the side of the House of Lancaster Since the 18th century Clapham has been home to the Farrer family who established their Ingleborough estate. This painting is based on a trip I did walking the length of Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales a few years ago now. I had reached Kettlewell early, and had plenty of time after supper at the hostel to walk up to the peak of Great Whernside behind the village. On the descent a patch of sunlight illuminated the route back down to the village. I've painted this in oil on a 16x12 inch board.

Scarborough Harbour Fishing Boats Scarborough Harbour is located on the north east coast of England, south of the Tees and north of the Humber. It is situated under the Castle Headland in the sheltered South Bay, All the fishing boats are huddled together waiting for the tide to turn, then they can get back to work. This image looks stunning as a large print on metal or canvas but also makes a great jigsaw puzzle for those that prefer to do something other than watch TV all the time.

Whitby, 199 Steps The 199 Whitby Abbey steps are one challenge visitors to the town cannot resist. They’re one of Whitby's most famous attractions. But, how much do you know about the history of Whitby steps? The first record of the Whitby Abbey steps comes from 1340, but they’re believed to be even older. The steps were originally made from wood. It was not until 1774 that the original wooden steps were replaced with stone from Sneaton.

Pink Heather On The Yorkshire Moors It takes a special kind of plant to thrive in moorland areas, where the weather is often cold, wet and windy. Heather – an evergreen shrub with twiggy stems – covers our open moorland. Usually lots of heather plants grow together, forming a thick, bushy carpet, sometimes up to half a metre tall. This helps the plant to survive strong winds. Heather also has tiny, narrow leaves shaped like the needles on a Christmas tree, which stop the plant from losing too much water as the winds blow across the moors. On The cliff Edge This solitary tree on the edge of a cliff in the Yorkshire Dales, England, really caught my eye for a minimalist shot. The stark landscape against the blue sky is beautiful in its simplicity, yet captivating. For fans and lovers of Yorkshire and the Dales in particular.

Hutton Le Hole, Yorkshire, UK What a stunning find, Hutton-le-Hole is a small village and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England, about 7 miles north-west of Pickering. It is a popular scenic village within the North York Moors National Park. Sheep roam the streets at will. There are many hikes around this area and all are amazing with views to die for, so get your boots and ruck sack on and head out in any direction you please. Carperby, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Black And White I present to you, one of our favourite places to stay in the UK. The picturesque Yorkshire Dales never disappoints. Carperby is just down the road from the stunning Aysgarth Falls, the iconic waterfalls. There was just so much going on in this image that I converted it to Black And White to simplify the landscape and windswept clouds. Whitby Abbey And Graveyard Of St Mary's Church A recent trip to the East Yorkshire coast would have been incomplete without a visit to Whitby. This fishing town has it all, a fantastic town and harbour, lots of shops and 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey And Graveyard Of St Mary's Church. Did I mention the links to Dracula? The sky was amazing and the gravestones gave a great foreground interest to this timeless landscape at the top of the cliff. This is from an original watercolour and is notable for the simplicity of pallet and a delicacy of touch that brings this famous scene to life. It was the view as we walked down into Whitby from Sandsend and looked up to see the iconic abbey overlooking the houses. Is it beautiful or a little sinister with its Gothic associations as the scene of Dracula's last stand?

Higger Tor is a dominant landmark in the Peak District National Park about 8 miles west of Sheffield. It is a gritstone tor overlooking the Burbage Valley and the iron age hill fort of Carl Wark to the southeast.

Hardcastle Crags is a wooded Pennine valley in West Yorkshire, England. It lies approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) north of the town of Hebden Bridge. Approximately half a mile along the valley there is a 19th-century cotton mill called Gibson Mill. The mill was water powered and has been renovated to demonstrate renewable energy sources and a sustainability strategy. It is surrounded by 400 acres (1.6 km2) of unspoilt woodland and crossed by 30 miles (48 km) of footpaths.

When I came across this spot, I wanted to stay forever. It instantly became one of my favourite places. I had been walking a route that started in Ilkley, following the river Wharfe up through Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales national park. I had followed it past the ruins of Bolton Abbey, and through the constriction of the Strid; stayed the night at Linton youth hostel (sadly it closed for good days later); passed Kilnsey Crag and its climbers playing on its pronounced overhang; stayed a night at Kettlewell, picking off some moorland peaks; and finally rejoined the river reduced at this point to a gentle rocky stream.
