I drew this picture of Max Julian from the blaxploitation movie The Mack for a possible comics gig.  I don't know if I expect to get it, but it's a paying job by a writer I really like, so I figured I'd give it a try.  It would be a feather in my cap to land this one, so we'll see.  Either way, it was fun to draw. So here it is!

I wrote this strip because I keep getting those "pre-approved" loan and credit card offers. As usual, instead of letting myself get frustrated, I wrote a comic strip.

When we talk to people about politics (not recommended, but it happens), we're reminded that a lot of y'all only believe in human rights for yourself, not others. At those times, we find ourselves wondering, do you even democracy, bro?

Pessimism is not more "realistic" than optimism. Faith and worry are basically the same thing. Both require believing in things you can't see. Both invite you to predict the future. The difference is what you believe in, and what you choose to do about it. Optimists believe that things will certainly get better if you don't give up. Pessimists lean into the idea that it isn't worth it to try too much because you'll only be disappointed. Both optimists and pessimists predict their own future. I've tried them both, and I don't really recommend either. On my best days, I'm not an optimist or a pessimist. I'm a scientist. I come up with ideas. I test them. I measure the results, learn from the data, and make adjustments.

I have lots of aspirations for 2023. We'll see how it goes, yeah?

Hard work is great, but kinda overrated. Counting on hard work alone for your success leads to burnout. Care about yourself. Care about your work. Care about your friends. Care about the results. Care about helping others.
