Description: The design comes from a legendary political cartoon from 1911 that's an American cartoon caricature critical of capitalism copied from a Russian flyer from 1901. It depicts the capitalist system as a social pyramid with peasants and workers at the bottom ("We work for all", "we feed all"), the bourgeoisie above them ("We eat for you"), the military above them ("We shoot at you"), the clergy above them ("We fool you"), royalty and state leaders above them ("We rule you"), and finally a money bag at the top representing capital as the ruler of all. Description: Since the founding of the Industrial Workers of the World, also known as the IWW, songs have played a big part in spreading the message of the One Big Union. The songs are preserved in the Little Red Songbook. The Little Red Songbook was first published by a committee of Spokane, Washington locals in 1909, (It was originally called Songs of the Workers, on the Road, in the Jungles, and in the Shops—Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent.)[3] It includes songs written by Joe Hill, Ralph Chaplin, T-Bone Slim, and others. The early editions contain many of the labor songs that are still famous, such as "The Red Flag," "The Internationale," and "Solidarity Forever." Thirty-six editions were published between 1909 and 1995.
Description: Organized class-conscious workers are all that's needed to rid the earth of the parasitic capitalist class. This political cartoon was originally from the May 1938 edition of The One Big Union Monthly, a monthly publication by the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). I have completely digitized, redrawn, and refinished this work of art, as well as rewritten the text for the sake of legibility - for the sake of preserving and archiving this important piece of labor history. The IWW still exists today, and if this political cartoon still rings true to you, even nearly a century after it's original publishing, you should consider looking up your local IWW chapter. A design made in the Soviet Union in 1968 depicting an unhappy proletarian filing a complaint with his bourgeois boss, presumably related to the whip and trying to pay him in pieces of paper that say "dollar" on them.
