Description: This is a male Lesser Bird of Paradise (Paradisaea minor) that lives in tropical rainforest of New Guinea island (West Papua and Papua New Guinea). The bird plays important role in preserving rainforest environment because it disperse seeds of fruits that it eats to all corners of the forest. The population of the paradise is being threatened by the rapid conversion of forest into farmland, roads, hunting, monoculture plantation and human settlements. I made this drawing to raise awareness among all of us about the importance of preserving the rainforest.
Description: Extinction is a natural part of evolution and happens for many reasons, but birders can be part of responsible environmental stewardship and take steps to minimize the risk of more bird species going unnecessarily extinct. While our world is changing and not all birds are able to change along with it, understanding the causes of extinction and how to help birds overcome those hazards is a great way to promote bird conservation before more species vanish.
