Assateague Island Horse Mieke’s Noe’lani Hoodie

Here is a portrait-style photograph of one of the Assateague Island Wild Horses, Mieke's Noe'lani, meaning Mieke's beautiful girl from heaven. This young mare is locally known as "The Princess" and is one of nearly 100 wild ponies on Assateague Island in Maryland. One part of this natural barrier island is a Maryland State Park and the other part is the Assteague Island National Seashore. The wild ponies, likely well known because of the book, "Misty of Chincoteague," are a national treasure. These animals in the wild are rather amazing in that they fend for themselves in a rather harsh environment.
