St John's Church, Wapping, London Hoodie

DescriptionA summers day, looking at St Johns Church Wapping London from the graveyard, Captain Bligh, of the famous mutiny on the Bounty lived in Wapping and was married in this church, most of his children were christened here to. Wapping is steeped in history and I have captured this in my paintings in and around Wapping. This was painted on a 20 by 30 inch canvas in oils. Wapping was originally a Saxon settlement, believed to be that of Waeppa's people, and although it is not known exactly where the original site of the village was, it is known that this area was marshland until the 16th century when it was drained.
