This painting was inspired by the view from my studio when the carnival arrives in late February for the Fur Rendezvous winter festival and the ceremonial start of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. The mountains in the background are the Chugach Mountains, which tower over Anchorage, and the one in the pint is Denali, the tallest mountain in North America, which I can see from my studio on sunny days, even though it's 133 miles from Anchorage as the crow flies. This painting is of the frozen Talkeetna River and the Alaska Range, including Denali and Foraker. It was a truly magical day, my friends and I really enjoyed the growlers of beer from Denali Brewing Co. This painting was inspired by Denali Mountain, which I see from my studio windows on sunny days, and by the F-22 Raptors that I see flying from the nearby Elmendorf Air Force Base here in Anchorage. I had some help from an F-22 pilot finalizing this concept. He walked into my studio one day in full uniform to pick up a print for his wife, and I happened to be working on the sketch for this painting. That was an amazing coincidence! We got to come up with the recipe, name the beer, and I was tasked with designing the beer label. We brewed a dopplebock and aged it in whiskey barrels. The name of the beer is Feast.
