Celtic Knot! This handsome geometric celtic knotwork is a beautiful example of Irish art. Many forms of celtic knots are symbols of celtic mythology and Irish art, seen often on Irish clothing and Irish gifts.

Animal artwork taken from the 9th century book of kells.

This design is based off a panel from the very famous Gundestrup Cauldron. The animals in this design are not clearly identified but possibly a wolf or dog, and a feline-like animal (I've chosen to call it a lion, but feel free to disagree!) I've recreated this in my own style making a unique take on this famous Celtic/La Tene piece of artwork!

Bears have been a prominent feature in mythology and legend. Perhaps most notably by the Norse berserker warriors that looked to channel the bear’s strength and ferocity by wearing bear skins into battle. The bear has been an admired creature throughout many cultures throughout history. Bjorn is a name of Germanic origin meaning "bear."

I did this bull elk in what could be called a Neo-Celtic or Neo-Nordic style. The stippling and knots are more traditional, but the image has a modern edginess to it. Elk and other antlered species have been a popular archetype representing strength, power, and virility going back to ancient times.

Via Victus, means ‘Woe to the Conquered’ and is attributed to the Celt leader Brennus, who threatened Rome with his army around 390BC. The Romans offered to pay the Celts a sum of gold if they would leave, and the Celts accepted.

After the Celts sacked Rome in 390 BC, they agreed to leave the city only after the Romans paid a massive quantity of gold. After the Romans complained to Brennus that the Celts were cheating by weighing the gold with faulty weights, Brennus rose to his feet, threw his sword on the scale and exclaimed the now famous, “Vae victis!” which translates to, “Woe to the vanquished!” In other words, “what are you going do about it?” The sacking of Rome by the Celts left a psychological scar on the Romans which they never forgot.

Stags have played a prominent role in mythologies and folklore throughout history. Their speed, agility, strength, and virility was and is admired to this day. Stags are often portrayed as stewards of the forest and nature. Their antlers form a sort of crown on their head and many gods and legendary figures feature similar antlers on their heads indicating the prominent status the stag held throughout the ages. This artwork depicts two stags facing off against each other about to lock their powerful antlers creating an almost heraldic look to the piece.

This Viking shield design builds on my most popular artwork of the wolf Fenrir. Fenrir is an enormous, monster wolf from Norse mythology, and is the father of all wolves. You’ll see Fenrir painted on the circular Viking shield. The shield is accented with two heavy-duty Viking axes that are decorated with wolves and Viking-style knot work. The shield is also accented by knot work and Elder Futhark runes.
