A herd of cows out in the pasture enjoying the sun and grass. There is even an abandoned building that they can use to get some shade. This idyllic country scene was taken at one of the many farms located in Chester County, PA.

The shadows are lengthening as the sun begins to set over the Thames Valley on an autumn afternoon. This is the scene looking over the fields just below Woodcote in Oxfordshire towards South Stoke and the Thames. On the opposite side of the valley in the far distance are the distinctive shapes of the Sinodun Hills - or Wittenham Clumps as they are usually called.

Usually a smudge pot has a large round base with a chimney coming out of the middle of the base. The smudge pot is placed between vines. The burning oil creates some heat, but more importantly, a large amount of smoke, particulates, carbon dioxide, and water vapor. This artificial smog forms a "blanket" that blocks infrared light, thereby preventing radiative cooling that would otherwise cause or worsen frost.

If you go to Iceland, one of the most popular things to do is to drive the Golden Circle; a trip that takes you to Thingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss. This image is of some hills as you travel between Thingvellir and Geysir, near the village of Laugarvatn. I really liked the simple layering in this image: the sky, the dark hillside, and the golden foreground.

A field of growing wheat on a warm Summer day when walkers are usually accompanied by the buzzing of bees, the sound of skylarks and the heat of the sun. These wheat fields were growing in Northamptonshire on an Autumn day.

An impressionist painter's view of a vineyard in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. This area benefits hugely from the warm Mediterranean sunshine in which grape vines flourish. Indeed the land here was earmarked for wine production in Roman times and this has continued to the present day. Languedoc-Roussillon lies in the south west of France with the Mediterranian as its southernmost border. This image is produced from my original photograph.

A farm nestled in a fold of the Berkshire (or North Wessex) Downs. This scene was captured on a small winding road between East Ilsley and Hampstead Norreys inWest Berkshire. Drive further on and the market town of Newbury is reached.

Looking over Herefordshire to Gloucestershire - the Forest of Dean - from a high viewpoint above Symonds Yat. This is an area of lush farmland with green and gold fields, green meadows and woodland stretching as far as the eye can see. And flowing through it, just below where we are here - the River Wye making its way to the Bristol Channel at Chepstow.
