Magical Forest and Its Secret Beautiful Cottage in Jungle

A scene captured in the village of Bosham (pronounced 'Bozzum') in West Sussex. Here the river flows between old houses to meet the sea by the quay. This image has been given a textured, pencil drawing finish. Bosham has its roots in history. King Canute is reputed to have had a palace near here and it might have been at Bosham that he commnded the sea to go back. It also appears on the Bayeux Tapestry showing the meeting of Harold Godwinson and Edward the Confessor prior to a meeting with William of Normandy.The upshot of this was, of course, the Battle of Hastings and the Norman conquest of Britain. The main street - called The Street - in the village of Tidmarsh, West Berkshire. Here we see old brick and tile cottages with the Georgian village pump at the end of the row. Beyond this the later houses have fine, tall chimneys apparently in the style of Lutyens. The road itself, the A340 is thought to be an old Roman road leading from Silchester to Dorchester-on-Thames, both important Roman towns. The village mill was once lived in by Lytton Strachey and the Bloomsbury Set.

A landing stage on the River Thames at Marlow just above the weir and lock. Marlow is a beautiful old Georgian town in Buckinghamshire which sits on the north bank of the Thames. A fine suspension brisge links the town to Berkshire on the southern bank. This stretch of the river is famous for rowing, the club here producing Olympic champions such as Sir Steve Redgrave, Past residents of Marlow have included Jerome K Jerome, Mary Shelley and TS Elliot.

My father used to come here. I never understood football much, and therefore it is a place I associate with him. Scottish pubs have an atmosphere of their own, and I can remember the smell of spilled ale and cigarette smoke from the years when it was allowed. If I close my eyes I can hear the roar of crowds from the nearby stadium, the feeling of high spirits and tension that soon would spill out into the deserted streets. Today it is quiet, with only the murmur of passing traffic and a solitary gull. In one direction is Georgie, one of Edinburgh’s swallowed villages, in the other the West End. The evocative scent of brewing hops hangs like a cloud of porridge in the sky, from the brewery a short distance away. A souvenir of Edinburgh.

A short street, near my grandmother’s old home, a place of shadow and light. The light of an early Scottish evening, soft, as though the flesh of peaches and apricots, turning the stone golden in places, brown in others, like caramel. Mature trees cast their webs of dappled shade, muting the hum of traffic on the Queensferry Road. I loved the play of light, the windows, triangles of dark and colour. This work is a wonderful souvenir of Edinburgh.

I loved the blue. It was so blue. The blue sky and the blue wood, just a few splashes of colour in the windows. A mysterious San Franciscan house, perched precariously, Victorian perhaps, evocative of a movie set. I wonder what lies inside, what stories are to be told, in this sapphire of a house, The work is rich in detail, in realism; and rich also in a range of blues. It is a perfect gift, a great souvenir of San Francisco, and a wonderful addition to any collection.

A view over an area of the Atlas Mountains not far from the city of Marrakech in Morocco, North Africa. The distant peaks reaching as high as 13,671ft (4,167 m) are covered with snow but nearer, the foothills are green and tree coivered. Berber villages are scattered throughout the area perched on the sides and tops of these high hills. Mountain rivers rush down, keeping this landscape well watered and green. A digital coloured pencil drawing from my original photograph of the village of Sonning-on-Thames in Berkshire. Once across the nearby bridge, however, you reach Sonning Eye in Oxfordshire - from where this image was captured. Sonning is a picturesque village just further downstream from Reading, and was described by Jerome K Jerome in 'Three Men In A Boat' as 'the most fairy-like little nook on the whole river' The village is now home to a number of celebrities.

Ålesund is a town on the west coast of Norway known for the art nouveau architectural style in which most of the town was rebuilt after a fire in 1904. The mountain is Mount Aksla with viewpoints at the top that can be reached by cable car or, if you're energetic, by climbing the 418 steps up the zigzag path to the top. Picture was taken on 3rd June 2023. The urban area is spread over several islands.

Sometimes freshness comes from coffee.

On a day of intense heat, when the lizards alone ventured out, when the crickets sang, I ventured onto a terrace in Greece. The Mediterranean dazzled me, the sky made me squint. The walls were painted yellow, and some flowers grew in pots. The air was scented with bougainvillea, with oleander and pine. Brewing coffee, fresh pitta, olives. A day of happiness and calm.

Looking across the River Thames to Henley in Oxfordshire. Here we can see the boathouses with their balconies and outside staircases just downstream from the town's bridge. Behind can be seen the towers of the old brewery - still in operation but not in Henley any more! The stretch of river here is most famous for the annual Henley Royal Regatta run since 1839 for 1 mile 55o yds from Temple Island almost to this spot! A sweeping view from the top of Dean Bridge, Edinburgh, Scotland. Over the centuries, the city of Edinburgh has been built up in several phases. The Old town, mostly to the South is a hotchpotch of twisting streets, closes and alleyways. The New Town was built much more to a plan and contains elegant Town Houses, many four, five or even six stories high, lining grand sweeping crescents and wide straight roads. This view encompasses part of the New Town. On the right is the quarter circle of the North West side of Randolf Crescent. On the left, is the half oval of the North West side of Ainslie Place. In between is the North West side of Great Stuart Street. The buildings sit high above the densely wooded Dean Gorge.
