The IHS is a traditional monogram for the Sacred Name of Jesus. This example comes from a weathered piece of ironwork. Depicted as well is a crown, symbolizing Christ's kingship, and flames, symbolizing Jesus' Sacred Heart burning with love for us.

Dark Sky Window.

The bridge over the River Wye at Chepstow, (Cas-gwent), which links Gloucestershire in England with Monmouthshire (Sir Fynwy) in Wales. The sun is setting at the end of a late September day and the lamps on the bridge are gradually lighting up. Chepstow was a vital stronghold from Norman times when William I saw its importance as a frontier town. In the background can be seen the towers of the castle, originally built by William FitzOsbern in 1087. Nikon D7000 Nikkor 18-200

Above me rumble trains, loud, otherworldly. In this netherworld, covered by its canopy of ochre metal, I look up, at a patch of sky, at the lines of tower blocks. I love being in America, far away, invisible and unknown. I want to explore all day long, to savour the smells and sights and sounds, familiar through film. I love the texture of the trains, corrugated, they cut through the air, through buildings. This work is rich in colour, it is vibrant and energetic. A wonderful souvenir of Chicago.

The bridge drew me, a jolt of pure Americana, of Art Deco and Jazz Age. The trains trundle overhead, cutting through buildings, reminding me of a metropolis fantasy cityscape. The metal is riveted, solid, nostalgic too, with fascinating hues of orange, purple, brown, a metallic autumn. I am in Chicago and a day of freedom and exploring awaits, a day of indulgence. I look upwards, beyond the tracks of the Loop, at the skyscrapers and the parcel of sky. The work is filled with energy, with detail and colour. A perfect addition to any collection of American art, a great gift, a wonderful souvenir of the Windy City.
