Looking across the footbridge spanning an arm of the River Thames at Little Wittenham, Oxfordshire. An attractive, lattice-sided bridge, it connects the village of Little Wittenham with the Thames Path leading just upstream to Day's Lock. Until recently the bridge was the setting for the annual Poohsticks Championships!

This picturesque footbridge crosses an arm of the Thames as it passes by the village of Little Wittenham in Oxfordshire. This is found just below Days Lock and here it is seen from the Thames Path National Trail. Until quite recently this bridge was the scene of the annual Pooh Sticks Championships - competitors dropping their sticks from the upstream side and watching them race under the bridge with the current. The bridge leads to the village church and the Wittenham Clumps - two tree crowned hills and prehistoric settlement -an Oxforshire landmark.

After heavy rain, the Thames rushing through Day's Weir near Little Wittenham, Oxfordshire. The Thames Path crosses the river over the lock and weir, carrying on upstream towards Abingdon. Apparently the name for Day's Lock and Weir comes from that of a local Catholic yeoman in the 17th century.

This is one of two hills known locally as The Wittenham Clumps which, being much higher than the local landscape, are a landmark in the area. This view from the lane next to Little Wittenham church looks over the nature reserve which surrounds the two hills - a popular area for walkers and kite fliers! From the top of the hill there are spectacular views over the Thames Valley.

Looking upstream towards Day's Lock on the River Thames at Little Wittenham. Here the rive flows by the village of Dorchester on Thames, once an important Roman settlement, now famous for its abbey - and being the frequent setting for the TV series 'Midsomer Murders'! Further above the lock is the town of Abingdon whilst downstream the river flows past the hills known as the Wittenham Clumps. In summer the river is busy with boats of all sorts but this image shows a quiet afternoon in spring.
