A rather neglected-looking fishing boat drawn up on the beach at Hastings, East Sussex. Fishing boats have been beached on this area of shingle known as The Stade, an Anglo-Saxon word for landing place, for over a thousand years and the Hastings fleet is now the largest beach launched fishing fleet in Britain. This particular boat though looks a little the worse for wear! This is a digital art image developed from my original photograph.

An almost forgotten memorial to an almost forgotten industry. This memorial marks the site of Cambois Colliery in the old Northumberland Coal Field. The colliery has long since closed and the memorial is becoming overgrown and neglected; a sad outcome after the toil, sweat. tears and loss of life in this once proud industry.

Having tired of driving the I76 across Nebraska and Colorado, we had opted to take the I76 Alternate after North Platte. The day was heavily overcast, it did rain later, but our travels became so much more interesting. This is an image of an old silo in Merino, Colorado. It was clear that the building had seen better days, but the soft, flat lighting gave the old building such interest against the turbulent sky.

The precious old beauties just need to be refreshed, because they don't make them like that anymore

An old brick bridge taking the towpath over a stream at Cookham, Berkshire. It's certainly seen better days but the Thames Path skirts it so you don't have to walk over it! The Thames Path is a long-distance trail which follows the river all the way from Cricklade in the Cotswold Hills to the Thames Barrier in Greenwich, London. Cookham, on the banks of the Thames is a village lying in the furthest north-east corner of Berkshire, England. Here the artist Sir Stanley Spencer lived and painted.

A rather neglected narrow boat sits listing in the water waiting to be restored at the nearby boat yard. Peaceful now, but once this would have been a hive of industry with boats loading and discharging cargoes at the nearby Aldermaston Wharf. The canal, completed in 1810, allowed the smooth transport of goods between Bristol and London via the Thames at Reading.

The following set of images are all about a side trip that I took while visiting Lisbon. It all started with waking up one morning and having a craving for a "good" fresh fish dinner. Someone had recommended a ferry ride across the Tagus River to Casilhas (a small community immediately south of Lisbon on the south bank of the river), with a short walk from the ferry terminal to the end of the path along the shoreline. And that's exactly what I did. The story doesn't end here. Watch out for my images over the coming few weeks to see how things turned out. You will not be disappointed. I definitely wasn't. This image (and the next) are simply close-ups of the previous 2 scenes taken from a high point at the end of the path. More...

Sometimes the silent voice in my head just wants to play.

A well used fishing boat lays rotting and abandoned on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean in Nova Scota, Canada. I started this digital painting a couple of months ago and finally had the chance to finish it. Reference source was a digial photo I took summer 2020 in Stonehurst, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia.

Close to a long vacant house now falling into disrepair, a neglected and lonely scarecrow overlooks a cornfield which is no longer harvested. The crows who once fled in terror, now find comfort to be near.

And the story of my walk from Casilhas to Boca Do Vento and my quest for the perfect fish meal continues. Why would a walk that normally takes the average person about 15 minutes to get to the restaurant at the end of the point took me almost 4 hours? All you have to do is examine these few images to find out. The path was essentially comprised of one warehouse after the other, all structurally attached to each other, and every single inch of every single facade wall was decorated with amazing graffiti works. I just had to stop and examine every piece of art. I have to say - every single one was more amazing than the next. But the story does not end there. Keep watching for the grand prize of them all.
