It was late in the day as we arrived at the Royal Palace in Phenom Penh; it wouldn't be long before the Sunset. Our timing did give us the advantage of having the place almost to ourselves. To help us around, we hired a guide to show us the highlights. This is an image of the Throne Hall, a pavilion-like structure used for coronations and other royal events. What an incredible building, so ornate and all trimmed with yellow and gold. The roofline is remarkable with tiered gable ends and spires. I really loved the snake-like points on the gables. The lateness in the day created an almost halo-like effect around the building, with the deepest blues approaching the zenith. It was quite the scene.

The Royal Palace in Phnom Penh was constructed over a century ago to serve as the residence of the King of Cambodia, his family and foreign dignitaries, as a venue for the performance of court ceremony and ritual and as a symbol of the Kingdom. It serves to this day as the Cambodian home of King Norodom Sihamoni and while his father King Norodom Sihanouk. The Palace complex and attached 'Silver Pagoda' compound consist of several buildings, structures and gardens all located within 500x800 meter walled grounds overlooking a riverfront park. Marking the approach to the Palace, the high sculpted wall and golden spired Chanchhaya Pavilion stand distinctively against the riverfront skyline.

The Royal Chapel is the fifth and last of the chapels that have succeeded one another in the castle since Louis XIII. It is located in the Palace of Versailles and was built over time by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and then by Robert De Cotte, to be completed in 1710.

The Royal Palace was established in 1866 when the capital was moved from Oudong to Phnom Penh after the implementation of the French Protectorate in Cambodia. It was constructed using a combination of traditional Khmer, Thai and European architectural features. Significant changes and additions were also made in the 20th century. The structure featuring in this shot is the Chanchhaya Pavilion constructed in 1913-14. This is an image of the Pedralbes Royal Palace in Barcelona. It's not really a palace anymore, just a tourist attraction. I remember going in there and seeing a wonderful art exhibition. The grounds around the palace are stunning with soaring trees, ornamental ponds and the like, statues, and beautifully laid out gardens. It was a great place to spend a few hours.

The palace is open to the public as one of the Spanish royal sites. It was commissioned by Philip II and designed by Juan Bautista de Toledo and Juan de Herrera, who also designed El Escorial. It was completed during the reign of Ferdinand VI by the mid-18th century; Charles III had two wings added to it.

The Dar al-Makhzen or Royal Palace of Fez is the royal palace of the King of Morocco in the city of Fez, Morocco. Its original foundation dates back to the foundation of Fes el-Jdid ("New Fez"), the royal citadel of the Marinid dynasty, in 1276 CE. Most of the palace today dates from the Alaouite era (17th-20th centuries). The vast grounds are home to multiple private structures, patios, and gardens, but historically also included administrative offices and government tribunals. Today, the most publicly visible parts of the palace are its main entrances at the Old Mechouarand the highly ornate 20th-century gates at Place des Alaouites.

If visiting the Nymphemburg Palace, just on the outskirts of Munich, you'll notice a series of lodges, arranged in a semicircle, that face the front of the palace. In this image, the buildings seem almost like scale models, so I gave the sky prominence. The colours are overwhelmingly primary.
