He was later temporarily assigned as Maverick's RIO shortly after Goose's death. Sundown and Maverick had a fallout, because of Maverick still being upset over Goose's death. Sundown is last seen at the TOPGUN graduation ceremony speaking to Chipper regarding Maverick's whereabouts and state of mind.
