Trend Daughter Hoodies

A second portrait of my daughter, Grace. Yesterday, her hair was super loooong. Today she cut most of it off and posted it to CANSA (the South African Cancer Association) as a donation to be made into a wig for someone. She is feeling a little light-headed! : ) Photo 47 in my 52 week photo challenge.

This is a drawing that Tane (8) did for me, and that I coloured by hand and in photoshop. They are (from left to right) Tane, Grace, Perrin and Mila, my lovely daughters. Grace has asked for this as a T. ( :

Also, she didn't want to brush her hair. Truth be told, though, I did get her to smile in the end.

John Singer Sargent said that a portrait is a painting with something wrong with the mouth. I've always liked that quote. I've never done a portrait (drawing or painting) that didn't feel a little off to me, in some way or other. Now, as I venture into digital painting, I find the same thing happening. I could have worked on this image for days & days longer than I have, but, well, enough. Sometimes you just have to force yourself to stop. : ) This is Mila, 6. (I still have so so much to learn!)

(She was climbing a tree at the time, I went looking for her in the garden, and photographed her there. I have become so distracted with life and family and other art forms that I have left myself no time or energy for photography. I know, I know, excuses, excuses!! A portrait of my daughter, Perrin (15). We had some fun doing this, we were going for a kind of classical Grace-Kellyish look, not sure if we got there but I do think Perrin is lovely.

My little artist, Mila (4), who draws all day long and who would paint all day long, if I would let her. This was taken using natural light, in front of my bedroom window. More and more I find myself wishing I had studio lights.... sigh... How wonderful that would be. I used my 18-55mm lens because I wanted to see if I am still capable of taking a portrait without my macro lens, which I tend to use for everything. : ) Camera Model Canon EOS 500D

The textures overlayed are from one of Mila's own artworks, an abstract painting she did a while back. : ) If we all put on big, soft, fluffy boots and danced in the garden, we'd probably be far less stressed. Everyone needs somebody to tell their secrets to! My wonderful husband gave me a wacom tablet for Christmas!!! I am having SO MUCH FUN. I have wanted one for the longest time, but was too scared to get one in case I found I was useless with it. Well, I know I have a way to go, and this is only my second attempt with it, but I love using it, so much... I feel like a whole new world just opened up to me. (As you can imagine, the laundry is piling up, the dishes are begging to be done, the dust is collecting in the corners of my house ... and I just don't care.) This is based on a photograph that I took of my daughter, Mila (6).

I thought I would be lost with no creative outlet, but my husband suggested I paint. So I did. This is a painting of my daughter, Tane. It has been 4 years since I last painted in oils, I feel very rusty. : ) Next time I'm far away from my computer, I'm gonna try again.
