Area Beyond This Sign Closed by Debra Martz A small portion of the 11,000 acreas of salt flats within the Salt Plains National Refuge is open to the public April 1 through October 15 each year. There is a designated area where digging for the Selenite Crystals is allowed. The rest of the area is preserved for wildlife and birds, more specifially for the fall and spring migration of birds included several endangered and at risk species.
