Description: The Yellow Sign is a symbol first mentioned in Robert W. Chambers' book of horror short stories The King in Yellow (1895). The stories mention the play The King in Yellow, a forbidden work which induces despair and madness in those who read it.. H. P. Lovecraft and many of his imitators were great admirers of Chambers' book and incorporated many of his characters and symbols into their own works. In the latter-day Cthulhu Mythos, the Yellow Sign is the sign of The Great Old One, Hastur, and is used by members of his cult to identify one another.
Description: It is absolutely necessary, for the peace and safety of mankind, that some of earth’s dark, dead corners and unplumbed depths be let alone; lest sleeping abnormalities wake to resurgent life, and blasphemously surviving nightmares squirm and splash out of their black lairs to newer and wider conquests.
Description: Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American writer, who achieved posthumous fame through his influential works of horror fiction. He was virtually unknown and published only in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, but he is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors of horror and weird fiction. Lovecraft’s writing, particularly the so-called Cthulhu Mythos, has influenced fiction authors including modern horror and fantasy writers. He's shown in my illustration with a lot of tentacles, a few skulls and the Sigil of the Gateway behind him.
