John Glenn Merch
Description: Inspired by a historic moment in space exploration, this design commemorates astronaut John Glenn's return to Earth after becoming the first American to orbit the planet on February 20, 1962. As part of the Mercury-Atlas 6 mission, Glenn became a national icon and a symbol of courage during the space race. This design brings a retro feel with an authentic tribute to America's space hero. Perfect for fans of NASA history, space exploration, and vintage memorabilia collectors.
Description: Mercury-Atlas 6 (MA-6) was the first crewed American orbital spaceflight, which took place on February 20, 1962. Piloted by astronaut John Glenn and operated by NASA as part of Project Mercury, it was the fifth human spaceflight, preceded by Soviet orbital flights Vostok 1 and 2 and American sub-orbital flights Mercury-Redstone 3 and 4. The Mercury spacecraft, named Friendship 7, was carried to orbit by an Atlas LV-3B launch vehicle lifting off from Launch Complex 14 at Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Description: A "mission patch" for the "WEST AREA COMPUTING UNIT", celebrating the women of colour working as computers (the original, human kind) calculating orbits for the engineers at NASA's predecessor NACA in the 40's and 50's. They were portrayed in the book and film Hidden Figures. The smoke from the rocket is made up of actual equations from one of computer Katherine Johnson's technical reports. The rocket is the Atlas LV-3B carrying the Mercury capsule Friendship 7 with John Glenn in 1962.
