Engineers, like gamers, are odd ducks. Somewhere in the distant mists of pre-history (like, probably 1965) the father of one our game group regulars coined (or ripped off) this term, which has since gone on to be part and parcel of the military-industrial complex (and gamer) lexicon: FANAVERAGE. It's the perfect term for results so underwhelming, one doesn't know whether to laugh or cry or throw up. And as such situations are all too common in our gaming sessions (particularly when a certain sadistically brutal GM is at work), it's become a go-to work-horse term of dismay and disappointment. So go ahead, steal it for your group. And better still, buy some merch, so we don't think of YOU as FANAVERAGE!
