In the Doctor Who episode 'The Bells of Saint John' Clara Oswald phones a helpline number she was given. 'The best in the universe' she was told. In the year 1207 the phone on the front of the TARDIS rings.. The Doctor answers ........and so begins his next adventure! Wouldn't it be great if we could ALL call The Doctor?!

Heaven Sent from Doctor Who season 9 is a masterpiece of storytelling. The visuals and directing are incredible, but the story is what shines. I'm particularly fond of the shepherd boy's tale used to illustrate the billions of years the Doctor spent in the clockwork, puzzle hell running from the veil. The metaphor - a bird sharpens its beak on a granite mountain once every 100 years or so, and the time it takes for the mountain to be worn down from the sharpening of birds beaks...is one second in eternity - has often been used in literature. James Joyce uses it, most notably, in 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.'

This was my first Doctor Who painting. I was watching a short webisode prior to the ‘Bells of St. John.’ At this time, the Doctor had lost the Ponds and had two strange encounters with the impossible girl. He was alone. Drifting lazily on a swing. I’d been struggling with my own loneliness for years following my divorce. Here, the Doctor captured how I’d been feeling, so I decided to paint it because I wanted it on my wall. This led me to paint others. Less than a year later, my walls were covered with Doctor Who paintings.

In 2014, this painting was among one of the winners of a BBC America Fanart contest. It was a difficult contest, as the contest required fan art for the 12th Doctor before any episodes had aired. The painting was on display at the Doctor Who booth at the San Diego Comic-Con and the Doctor Who World Tour premier of Series 8. Two weeks after I won this contest, a trailer for Series 8 was released that focused on Clara’s reflection in the 12th Doctor’s eye. I’m not saying I inspired the trailer, but the reps at BBC America were certianly impressed with the apparent clairvoyance. It was a proud moment. The original oil painting is on a 36" by 24" canvas. 12 and Clara

A SOUFFLE' ISN'T A SOUFFLE'..... A SOUFFLE' IS A RECIPE

Prior to painting this, I asked my Twitter followers what I should paint next and the most votes were for something that expressed the relationship between the 12th Doctor and Clara. This scene immediately came to mind. I can't describe the scene without writing a hundreds of words. Let's just say, Clara totally betrays the Doctor in an attempt to save her boyfriend who had been hit by a car and killed. It just might have been my favorite scene from Series 8 because of his response after her betrayal. We should all be so lucky to experience such friendship.

I painted this scene after watching the Deep Breath, the first episode for Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor in Doctor Who's 8th series. The Scene came by surprise and definitely had me in tears, which isn't entirely difficult. I was very attached to Matt Smith's 11th Doctor and this scene made for a great transition - as the 11th Doctor isn't just asking Clara to help the next Doctor, but the audience.
