By the early ’60s, Bill Jenkins had developed something of a cult following among East Coast racers, who knew that a Jenkins Competition engine significantly increased one’s odds of winning races and when he wasn’t building race-winning engines, he was winning races driving his own cars, further cementing his name in the drag racing history books. Eddie Meyer went into business repairing and tuning Model T's in Redlands, California back in 1919 as Eddie Meyer Engineering. When he wasn't working on customer cars, he was moonlighting as a race car driver, running a highly tuned Rajo Model T with great success in '23 and '24. Bud, Eddie’s son, joined the business in 1928, leaving Eddie to run the show, and Bud to run the shop. To get closer to the hot rod scene, Bud moved the shop to Hollywood in 1939, and began producing some of the most outstanding flathead speed equipment ever made. Eddie Meyer intakes and heads were top shelf add-ons for dry lake racers and street racers alike, and remain legendary pieces for collectors and enthusiasts to this very day.

Released in 1970, the Maverick was a compact car originally sold as a two-door coupe, intended to provide stylish looks and prolonged practicality along with comfortable, enjoyable driving. The model's objective was to compete against overseas rivals, and was widely marketed as an ‘import killer,’ which apparently worked, as 579,000 units sold in the first year alone. Engines initially included a couple of efficient 6-cyclinder options, coupled with either automatic or manual transmissions. Of course, it didn't take long for hot rodders to see the compact platform as the perfect lightweight chassis, and countless Mavericks were stuffed with powerful V8 engines that turned the economy car into a street racer to be reckoned with.

Modified Vette’s push purists over the edge, but in all reality, they were just another car back in the day. While taking a C2 and punching a hole through the hood and flaring the fenders may seem like sacrilege nowadays, we’re talking about cars that were a dime a dozen decades ago, so you do you and rule it up, Coolvette!

Back in the late '50s, hot rodders were increasingly attracted to newer cars making their way into junkyards, or more specifically, the OHV V8 engines they brought with them. An engine that made more power than their flathead V8's, was all too enticing, though the swap wasn't exactly straight forward. Of course, hot rodders were an ingenious bunch, and came up with all kinds of mounting solutions, but none of them were exactly great (or safe). Seeing a need, Hurst came out with their Adjusta-Torque engine conversion mount in 1960, promising a true bolt on solution for OHV engine swaps.
