Scratch Where It Itches by Debra Martz What fun to have this Great Egret land on my back deck....and then do some preening and scratching. Made me think of the quote "Fill what's empty. The Snowy Attitude by Debra Martz A day trip to the Great Salt Plains State Park provided ample opportunities to photograph the Snowy Egrets. After a walk down the side of the multi-tiered spillway, I found additional concrete stairs leading down to the peninsula at the very bottom where there were many of these birds fishing; they were also squabbling at times over what I assumed was the best fishing spot! This one really had some territorial attitude! This lake is near Jet in northern Oklahoma. Egret Bird

Design made from a photography of a snowy egret. The text reads: It is native to North, Central and South America. It is present all year round in South America, ranging as far south as Chile and Argentina. The birds eat fish, crustaceans, insects, small reptiles, snails, frogs, worms and crayfish. Fossils of the snowy egret have been reported from Peru and in Bradenton in Manatee County and in Alachua County in Florida, United States. The deposits were dated to the Late Pleistocene.

I might still break out some watercolors, but I need some supplies before I do that, so I may return to this in a couple weeks, but for now, I'm happy with the turnout, especially considering this was my first time attempting a Heron. I wasn't trying to copy the photo(credit to myself, as I encountered this gentle giant on a painting day at Ringling by the canal and managed to snap a couple of pictures. One of the most unforgettable moments I'd ever had at Ringling and I love it.) because, as my Illustration I professor used to tell us: "You're an artist, not a camera!
