Bradlees Department Store, more commonly known as Bradlees, was a discount department store chain based out of Braintree, Massachusetts, which operated primarily in the northeastern United States. Bradlees sold various retail items in its stores, including clothing, jewelry, health care, beauty products, footwear, furniture, electronics, housewares, and bedding. At its peak in the year 2000, Bradlees operated over 105 stores in seven states across the Northeast, with close to 10,000 employees. Along with being a part of Stop & Shop from 1961 until 1992, the chain went through Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2000, with all of its stores eventually closed by March 15, 2001.

The Wiz, also known at times as Nobody Beats the Wiz, was a chain of electronic stores in the northeastern United States, located primarily in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Some locations were in Canada as well. The chain was founded by four brothers, Douglas, Lawrence, Marvin, and Stephan Jemal, in New York City in 1977. Later, it officially changed its name to its well-known advertising slogan, "Nobody Beats The Wiz." During the early-to-mid 1990s, the chain was a major sponsor for all local NY sports franchises and had a significant television advertising presence during local sports events. In 1998, after having expanded from roughly 20 stores to over 80 stores in less than a year, the chain filed for bankruptcy.

Incredible Universe was the name of a chain of consumer electronics stores in the early to mid '90s that were a joint venture between Tandy Corporation and Trans World Entertainment. A typical store was 185,000 square feet of sales floor and warehouse, stocking around 85,000 items. The store's borrowed philosophies from theme parks with retail departments being "scenes," employees were "cast members," customers were "guests,"and so forth. The stores featured a large rotunda area with a stage where sales presentations, product demonstrations, autograph signings, and musical acts could perform. Retail departments (software, music and video, and accessories) were accessible from the rotunda, making it a hub of sorts for the store.

Starting with one store located in Sunnyvale California, the chain operated 34 stores in nine states by 2019. They had everything, consumer electronics, household appliances, cosmetics, tools, toys, gift accessories, magazines, books on specialized areas of electronics, and computer hardware. Fry's even had in-store computer repair and custom computer building services. So sad to see them close.

Gone but not forgotten

Future Shop was a Canadian electronics store chain. In 2013, the company operated 139 locations across Canada. In 2015, Best Buy announced the dissolution of the Future Shop brand and the closure of 66 of its locations. All remaining locations were converted to Best Buy stores.
