They appear in Christian, Islamic, and Hebrew texts at the top of the angelic hierarchy. Their names vary from one faith to another, but the most well known are Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel. Others include Jibrael, Mikael, Israfil, Azrael, Abaddon, and Uriel. In popular culture and art, these beings tend to be depicted as humans with wings, wearing armor and carrying a flaming sword.
