Chawalauna Overlook at Wild Rivers Recreation New Mexico 3 by Debra Martz If you take the first right after stopping at the pay station, the Chawalauna Overlook is the next place for amazing views. There is not a trailhead here into the gorge but there are views both upstream and downstream (this view) of the Rio Grande. You can see where the other trails reach the river and backcountry campsites at the bottom of the gorge, where ponderosa pines offer tall shade if you decide to trout fish. If you are not camping up on the rim, this overlook offers parking to the Rinconada 6 mile loop trail which is on a well kept gravel path. Follow the Wash - Toadstool Trail - Utah by Debra Martz I spotted the signage for this trail as we traveled from Kanab, Utah to Lake Powell along highway 89 and added it to plans to come back during our stay at Wahweap Marina (Lake Powell). Overall the trail was fairly easy 1.8 mile round trip, following washes for the most part...only one climb that required hands and feet to get up a level. Butterfly On An Autumn Day by Debra Martz Not just any ordinary Autumn day as I had made the drive to south Texas for some bird watching. The weather is normally quite nice in late November but not this time...rain and colder than normal all 3 days. Buy hey, I was there to be outdoors and look for birds and enjoy nature on a whole and so I did. I started noticing a number of butterflies up in the trees and also on tall grasses...too cool for them to fly. This particular Queen was on the grass stem along with rain drops of which some were jewel like where the spider webs held them in place.
