Cyclone Winston has created a massive swell all along the eastern Australian coastline this week, so the surfers were out in force on Thursday morning when we headed down the Gold Coast to shoot sunrise (so much so that we struggled to get a parking spot at 5am). The conditions meant that both surfers and photographers were in heaven!

I didn't quite make it down to the coast for the first sunrise of the new year, but I didn't wait long to catch a sunrise in 2016. I've never been to this spot on Miami Beach before, so it was a great new spot to start a new year of shooting.

This morning was a great morning to be out on the rocks at Currumbin. The nearly-high-tide waves were crashing over the rocks and there was a gorgeous sunrise...once it appeared from behind the clouds on the horizon!

This minimalist image was taken on a cold December morning from the beach at Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England just as the sun was showing over the horizon giving the sky a beautiful yellow and red colour which was reflected on the wet sand and the waters of the North Sea. There is also a glimpse of St Mary's Lighthouse on the horizon and a loan seagull is silhouetted against the bright sky..

In 2009, I spent Halloween night in Tamborine Mountain Cemetery with the Bluedog crew. This shot was a long exposure where the werewolf jumped in and was light painted after about a minute (there's no photoshopping involved). A pretty creepy effect, huh, especially considering the date!

North Tamborine graveyard -- a spooky but very fun place to spend Halloween!

Stars lighting up the skies of the Gold Coast over Currumbin Rock, with the bright lights of Currumbin Surf Club in the distance.

The full moon shoot I ran last night at Currumbin Beach was very successful! It's always good fun to see the reaction after someone takes a long exposure under the full moon. Even though we were standing on the rocks in darkness, their cameras were showing them a landscape lit as though it was the middle of the day. It's one of the many reasons I love night photography! This was one of my few shots from the night. The moon was very red as it rose above the horizon so it gave the whole scene a nice soft colour.

This is from an expedition to O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat in Lamington National Park, about a 2 hour drive from Brisbane. I ended up doing part of the "Border Track" and eventually stumbled upon this gem--Elabana Falls.

Box Log Falls, in Lamington National Park and a short hike from O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat. It was so different to my previous visit, when it had so little water in it that it was two small parallel falls instead of this cascade. That meant the water was a lot higher too, so my feet got very wet in the process of finding this spot. Luckily they were already very wet from a number of other creek crossings so it didn't really matter!

Happy Halloween! This was shot in Tamborine Mountain Cemetery on a very spooky (and very fun) Halloween a few years ago. Only slight adjustments done in Photoshop -- the ghost effect was done in camera.
