Desilu Productions was an American television production company founded and co-owned by husband and wife Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. The company is best known for shows such as I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show, The Untouchables, Mission: Impossible and Star Trek.

Remembering Gimbels Department Store. Founded in Indiana and then relocating to Milwaukee, Gimbels eventually opened stores in Philadelphia and New York. With its arrival in New York, Gimbels soon became the primary rival to the leading NY retailer, Macy's. Despite its limited presence, Gimbels was well-known nationwide.  Gimbels gained publicity from the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street, the 1967 film Fitzwilly, and was frequently mentioned as a shopping destination of Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz on the hit 1950s TV series I Love Lucy. And of course it is where Will Ferrell works in Elf.

Born in 1917 in Cuba, Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III, his family fled to Miami during the Cuban revolution. Before that his grandfather was an executive at Bacardi. After High School in 1930s NYC he popularized the Conga line in the US with the Desi Arnaz Orchestra 💃🏻 In 1939 he went to Broadway then Hollywood the following year where he and Lucy were married almost immediately after they met. The other half of tv’s first interracial couple, he and Lucy were on the FBI’s sh*t list during the red scare. Their production studio Desilu popularized the 3 camera filming technique and the sitcom format we know today, as well as being the first show to air reruns.
