This fantasy artwork is reminiscent of the old carousels.

I have been painting a Nostalgia series of subjects from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, things are mean something to me or bring back a memory like a Kombi van, old telephone etc and I saw this photo on Unsplash and I remembered the days I used to have to drag my little sister and brothers to the local Warwick show. Mum would give me $2.00 and that would get us all a show bag, a couple of rides and an ice cream...it was so much fun...the merry-go-round horses used to mesmerise me...

This carousel horse was part of the outside row of horses. These are the most heavily decorated because the outside row is the one easily seen by the spectators but only on the side facing the public.

A gray horse stands in profile, facing to the viewer's right. It lifts its front foreleg and slightly arches its neck, its head perpendicular to the ground. Its coat is lightly dappled and has white socks on every leg. It has a stylized, almost wood-carved look to the curling light brown tail. The mane is cut short, or roached. It was not the most common style on carousels but it was popular on carousel horses decorated in military themes. Digital illustration using Procreate and Affinity Photo.
