An old time antique country gas station brings back memories of another time. The vintage Fargo truck and rusted gas pumps complete the picture.

Finding Gas right now is hit or miss. Gas stations throughout the country continue to see long lines of cars an drivers try to fill up their gas tanks, following fears of a gas shortage due to the temoporary shutdown of the colonial pipeline system.

Spencer Missouri is little more than a crossroads on old Route 66 but because of the mystique that The Mother Road has, someone loved it enough to buy it and restore it.

Seeing these gas station attendant caps was a huge throw back in time for me. I remember the attendants dressed in uniforms with button shirts, caps and some even wore bow-ties in the very early days! Not to mention they would check your oil, water levels and wash the windshield! But in these current days the majority of gas stations are self-service with the full service the exception rather than the rule in most USA states. While traveling through Oregon a few years back, we noticed there were no self-service stations and the same for New Jersey; customers are not allowed to fill their own tanks in these two states. Sav'n Sam's Service Stations were found primarily throughout California, though did make their way into Nevada and possibly Oregon. They were an independent chain that carried 3 grades of gasoline, Regular, Ethyl, and Super Ethyl. The original artwork has been painstakingly recreated from resource material to create a nice, authentic t-shirt where Sav'n Sam can live on!

The original artwork has been painstakingly recreated from resource material to create a nice, authentic t-shirt where Sav'n Sam can live on! This version of the Sav'n Sam's tee is well weathered with a nice distressed treatment to give it a genuine article kind of look... almost like your granddad got it when he was working there in the 50s.

Charles Pratt and Company was an oil company that was formed in 1867 by Charles Pratt and Henry H. Rogers in Brooklyn, New York. It became part of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil organization in 1874.

There are parts of old Route 66 where abandoned cars grow like weeds. This heap of rusting elegance is somewhere in Phillipsburg, MO along a stretch of road that once bustled with traffic.

Boston's Beacon Oil Company was founded in 1919 and named after the city’s Beacon Hill. By 1992 they had opened more than 350 service stations throughout New York State and New England, most of which used elements of the 1700s era Massachusetts State House. This design emphasized the colonial past with its use of the State House dome, columns, balustrade and the prominent lantern which was humorously enough, mistaken for a typical coastal lighthouse. Beacon ran with the greater public perception and eventually played up the lighthouse in their logo design, including this 1942 example. Sometime in the '50s, Standard Oil of New Jersey bought out Beacon and all of their service station were converted to Esso stations.

In 1972, Mill Jennings sold his gas station to Billy Carter, brother of President Jimmy Carter. It became an important landmark in the history of Plains, Georgia in 1976 when Billy’s station became famous nationwide, as journalists covering Jimmy Carter’s presidential campaign made it their headquarters. In 1981 Billy sold the station to his son-in-law, and in 2008, it became the Billy Carter Museum. During its heyday, you could find Billy running the show, and his step side shop truck parked on site, which featured his CB handle, 'Cast Iron' prominently on the doors.
