John Singer Sargent said that a portrait is a painting with something wrong with the mouth. I've always liked that quote. I've never done a portrait (drawing or painting) that didn't feel a little off to me, in some way or other. Now, as I venture into digital painting, I find the same thing happening. I could have worked on this image for days & days longer than I have, but, well, enough. Sometimes you just have to force yourself to stop. : ) This is Mila, 6. (I still have so so much to learn!)

Spring flowers watercolor cottage-core set

This portrait of Mila (2) was taken in the back garden. Her older sister, Perrin, ran around behind her holding a black cloth to act as a 'backdrop' for me. In true 2 year old style, she decided today was the day that she would NOT smile, and as for looking at the camera... you can forget it. Keeping still was also not an option. So this is the end result of a frustrating shoot, but maybe the more interesting for it.
