My #inktober for “ancient.” One older meaning of the word is flag or symbol, so I chose to honor the 6 marines at Iwo Jima that would not let the American Ancient fall. They raised the flag as a beacon of hope.

Submission for Inktober day 6 - Husky

My drawing for #inktober - “ash.” On the night of July 18, 1775, Colonel John Ashe and his New Hanover County regiment were part of the patriot forces that burned Fort Johnston, which had been the headquarters of Royal Governor Josiah Martin. Martin learned of the attack in advance and fled on a British Warship in to the Cape Fear River. He was able to see the flames from his place on the ship. This is my interpretation of this event.

On my recent trip to Japan I was extremely inspired by the majesty of Mount Fuji! I decided to do "31 Views of Mt. Fuji" as my theme for this year's Inktober. All the paintings are done with Sumi Ink and are based on my photos that I took while in Japan ^-^ The golden grains along the lake were really quite lush and intriguing. They stood taller than me, reaching almost to the top of the mountain.

On my recent trip to Japan I was extremely inspired by the majesty of Mount Fuji! I decided to do "31 Views of Mt. Fuji" as my theme for this year's Inktober. All the paintings are done with Sumi Ink and are based on my photos that I took while in Japan ^-^ This first one is based on my favorite moment. We woke up to a perfectly clear view and immediately took the bus to the other side of the lake. We were rewarded with this magnificent view just as the clouds were perfectly surrounding the mountain and golden waves of grass waved in the wind. The lake was still, save for a slight warm breeze, hinting at the hot day to come!

Inktober 2019 "Swing" entry October 9. Boxing.

On my recent trip to Japan I was extremely inspired by the majesty of Mount Fuji! I decided to do "31 Views of Mt. Fuji" as my theme for this year's Inktober. All the paintings are done with Sumi Ink and are based on my photos that I took while in Japan ^-^ When we were landing in Tokyo, Japan, I spotted something amazing on the horizon. The tall lonely peak of Mount Fuji rising right over the first layer of clouds. I was awestruck, and then I felt a tinge of cold dread... would the weather even be clear enough to even see the mountain up close?

I wondered how much trouble we would be in if we just borrowed one for an hour or two? In general, seeing people leave their bikes (and boats) unlocked was quite a stark difference to life in New York.

The trails leading up to the summit call to me, but since it was September they were closed. The climbing season lasts for only a couple short months, before the weather gets too dangerous for hiking. I think next time I'll try to reach the top.

#inktober day 11: snow. I thought about George Washington leading his troops across the Delaware through a snowstorm on Christmas night in 1776 after a rough fall full of losses and retreats. It made me think of a bald eagle riding out a winter storm on a branch.
