80s Skate Kids T-Shirts

Skate Rags was a Southern California based clothing company that operated from the mid-1980s to early 1990s. Their tagline was "To Fit and Survive" and as such, marketed their apparel as being a bit more durable, though not sure if that was just marketing bs or if there was any truth to it, I just know my SR gear didn't fare much better than any of my other stuff. Nonetheless, Skate Rags had some cool designs and built up a great following, but as the skateboarding landscape changed in the 90s, they struggled to find their place and folded. Their team riders included Mike McGill, Tom Groholski, Monty Nolder, Sam Cunningham, Ben Schroeder, Mark Partain, and Rob Mertz, to name a few. Rip it up!

So you're skating through your jungle and you spot a sweet vine to vine transition...what do you do? Yup, you hand plant that vine...uh, vine plant that hand? You plant some vines and water them? This has devolved pretty quickly... None of that make any sense to you? It will to your kids! Grab this shirt for them and they'll be on fleek. In the event that they use the term, "On fleek" though, you should immediately evaluate the aptitude of their English teachers.

SKATE OR DIE

Minutemen were an American punk rock band formed in San Pedro, California in 1980. Composed of guitarist/vocalist D. Boon, bassist/vocalist Mike Watt, and drummer George Hurley, Minutemen recorded four albums and eight EPs before Boon's death in an automobile accident in 1985; after Boon's death, the band broke up.

80s retro, classic typography deisgn of my time skating across California

Tate, or 'Taters' as his friends called him, was born Gerry Hurtado in Los Angeles, California. Tate was a top amateur skater in the early 1970s, but always downplayed his skating by saying he "only skated for fun." Tate later attended a broadcasting trade school and applied his trade by working as a DJ in punk rock clubs. From his time in the clubs, Tate took up more interest in the newly growing skate rock movement, and recorded his first song, "Skaterock Rap," in his friend's basement in 1983. Upon its release, it became popular with skaters which led to becoming a popular opening act and the release of five albums. When not performing his skate rap, Taters was becoming a familiar voice as emcee at skate contests and events.
